Beyond the Screen Door began with just one door...

... a one-of-a-kind door, handcrafted in the home workshop of Michael Burke in 1986 as a Christmas gift for his father. But that first door started a new enterprise that now employs a committed staff, with dealers throughout Canada and the United States.

Modeled after the traditional doors Michael's father had admired through his business travels in the Southern states, our first door attracted enough attention locally that Michael built more similar doors. He began to display them in a small retail shop, then increasingly at Home and Garden Shows, and through local dealers. In 1987, Beyond the Screen Door Inc. incorporated as a business with Michael Burke as President.

In keeping with our sense of community, and our desire to positively impact the environment, "BTSD Inc." is an active supporter of reforestation programs.
